My name is Gladness Ayo, and I am a Special Needs Education teacher with over 7 years of experience teaching children with visual impairment. I work at a government primary boarding school in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where our Special Needs Unit is home to 39 pupils, most of whom are totally blind while others have low vision. Every day, I witness the strength, resilience, and determination of these incredible children. Despite their challenges, they come to school eager to learn and build a brighter future. However, many of them come from underprivileged families and depend on the school for their education and daily care. While the government provides valuable support, there are still many unmet needs. Our learners urgently need Braille paper, Perkins Braillers, assistive learning devices, nutritious food, and healthcare support. We are especially concerned about three pupils living with skin cancer, who require regular medical treatment and health insurance to continue receiving the care they need. I created this page to raise awareness about inclusive education and to share the journey of these amazing children. My hope is to build a community that believes every child deserves access to quality education, dignity, and equal opportunities. Thank you for taking the time to learn about our story. Together, we can help create a future where every child, regardless of disability, has the opportunity to learn, grow, and achieve their dreams.
