Full story
I’m currently in Kenya and unexpectedly dealing with a financial emergency while trying to access dialysis. I have kidney failure and have been on dialysis for nearly a decade. Before I left the U.S., I had everything arranged financially for my treatments here, but since arriving I’ve run into banking issues that I genuinely did not anticipate, and the money I planned to use isn’t accessible the way it was supposed to be. Unfortunately, dialysis doesn’t give me the option to wait while I sort everything out. I need treatment multiple times a week to stay alive, and the clinic here requires me to pay before they will treat me. The frustrating part is that dialysis is actually relatively inexpensive here compared with the U.S. I’m not trying to raise some enormous amount of money. I just need enough to get through my treatments this week while I get the banking situation straightened out. If I can cover this week, I should be okay from there. I hate having to ask strangers for help, especially when I thought I had prepared for this, but missing dialysis simply isn’t something I can safely do. Being thousands of miles from home and realizing that something as simple as a banking problem could stand between me and a treatment that keeps me alive is honestly terrifying. If anyone is willing to help with even a small amount toward my dialysis this week, I would be incredibly grateful. Every little bit gets me closer to being able to walk into the clinic, pay for treatment, and know that I’m safe for another few days. I’m happy to provide reasonable proof of my situation if needed. Thank you for even taking the time to read this.
